Kimberly Bryant: Black Girls Code
Kimberly Bryant is the Founder and Executive Director of Black Girls CODE, a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing young girls of color to the field of technology and computer programming with a concentration on entrepreneurial concepts.
Bryant has spent more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries as an Engineering Manager in a series of technical leadership roles for various Fortune 100 companies, such as Genentech, Merck, and Pfizer.
Ultimately, Bryant hopes that Black Girls Code will not only equip girls with hands-on experience, but also confidence and bonds of sisterhood—creating a community that will empower the girls to carve out their own spaces in the tech industry. “I want them to understand,” Bryant says, “that they have the right, the power to create the life they want for themselves.”
Be sure to check out Black Girls Code for more information about the program!
Global Black History Honors
The Global Black History Honors is a celebration of Black people from around the world that have worked to improve and empower their communities. The Global Black History Honors was created to celebrate Black economic power, political power, innovation, survival, ingenuity, resilience, natural resources and labor during the most celebrated month for Black History in the United States which is February during Black History Month. This annual event is a culmination of the beginning of breaking the stereotypes and bridging the gap between Black people around the world by celebrating each other.
PCX founder, Dr. Jakita Thomas, was recognized for her work in STEM and recieved the 'Blacks in Tech Award'. The honoree of this award have recognized the value of technology in today’s society and has utilized their skill set to enter into the technology arena. Breaking the barrier for blacks in a field unfamiliar to our demographic this individual or corporation is opening the doors for blacks in tech.
